Project Description: Crofton Industries was engaged as a subcontractor to participate in upgrades to the water treatment facility on Lake Jordan in Apex, NC. Crofton's responsibilities included replacement of raw water intake components on the upper and lower raw water intakes. The components replaced by Crofton included original tee-screen intake structures, connection piping to elevate the new screens, and a new screen cleaning air piping system. The dive team was first tasked to survey what was in place to confirm dimensions for the new components. Following confirmation of component dimensions, Crofton mobilized a 40' x 60' floating crane rig with a 35-ton Rough Terrain crane aboard to dismantle the existing screens and replace with new stainless steel screen components. Crofton installed new HDPE air piping for screen cleaning, tying it in to existing internal piping within the upper and lower intake assemblies. All inspections were conducted by Crofton and captured on underwater color television.
