Kerr Reservoir Tower Foundation Rehabilitation
Project Description: Crofton Industries performed rehabilitation work on three transmission tower foundations on the Kerr Reservoir. There was a total of 12 concrete foundations, with four foundations on each tower. Two of the towers were accessible via power line right-of-way land access. The third only accessible by barge, which required creative solutions for mobilizing the concrete from land based trucks on to the barge, then into the foundation forms at the tower. The critical timing of concrete placement was managed successfully buy using special additives to keep concrete fluid until placement occurred. Additionally, unexpected environmental considerations expedited the project timeline on this tower, to which Crofton quickly adapted. Due to permitting restrictions, no direct contact was allowed between the ground and construction equipment. This required strategic placement of mats so that each of the tower foundations were accessible as well as the barges for retrieving materials.
