Pier Replacement Project
Project Type: Design-Build, Demolition, and New Construction
Project Description: This Pier Replacement Project was a design-build effort completed by Crofton Construction Services, Inc. The design included a pier, a wharf, and two ramps constructed to support heavy vessel and forklift traffic from land/warehouse to the pier and back. A machinery house constructed of CMU was also incorporated into the design. The pier and ramps were constructed of pre-cast concrete piles, pre-cast and cast-in-place concrete ramps, pre-cast deck panels and a cast-in-place topping slab. The finished pier was protected with a timber based fender system. A significant demolition effort was required to remove the existing pier and generations of timber pile dolphins. Both demolition and new construction were iterative in nature, allowing the owner to continue operations and berth their oil-carrying vessel for the duration of the project.
